Dear Jil,

Don’t know if you’ve ever been to Vegas? How was Valentine by the way? I couldn’t visit Vegas for many years because of its glitzy, chintzy consumerism. Vegas is casino republic. That had little appeal for me. I prefer cities with ‘soul’ – cities with culture. But then I visited Vegas in December as a contra culture exploration. The weather helped nudge me. I’m not a fan of winter.

Dear Jack

The problem is that some people don’t understand how important marriage is, or how powerful it is. Marriage is an ancient institution – a pervasion that is an integral part of every culture. Your wife is a very significant factor in your life equation. A wise man treats that fact with respect.

Dear Jill

She’s a gorgeously beautiful woman, one of those nature showed partiality. You can’t help but notice her in a crowd, any crowd. Her complexion glows in radiance, like an incandescent reflector. Her sense of fashion only lends credence to the conviction of those who believe some things are just talent. Perhaps indeed no amount of tutorial can match the effortless disposition of those innately wired. This isn’t just about beauty. There is an intrinsic sophistication domesticated in her, in her poise. Her make-up is impeccable. No speck out of place, no painterliness overstepping its bounds. She does look like a dolly – a polyurethane version of human flesh; like a trick of the senses. You know someone is talented when it all seems so effortless. It takes talent to creatively ensemble simplicity.

Dear Jack,Please forward this mail to John. It’s the response to the mail he asked you to forward to me. What does he take me for?!

“Dear John, Jack forwarded your mail to me. I am constrained by higher considerations to reply your mail though ordinarily I would have ignored it. You wrote me for solution to your “problem” with an ignoble motivation. Once the motivation is of doubtful provenance the integrity of an act becomes a questionable proposition.

Dear Jil,Thank you for your mail. And I appreciate your kind compliments. Yes, my letters are REAL!

Now in your mail you stated that you subscribe to the Biblical injunction of no premarital sex. That is okay even if you’re judged prude or old fashioned. It’s your choice and you should never apologise for your values. In view of your upcoming nuptials however (it’s barely a month away), you do need to know how to fulfill your sexual marital obligation. Sex is a knowledge program. It’s why we call it carnal knowledge. Even the Bible refers to sex as knowledge. Copulation is recorded as a “knowing” in several passages. One of such instances is Genesis 4.1: “Adam knew Eve his wife”. It’s referring to coition. A more modern translation would read “Adam had sex with Eve his wife”. So sex is not “unholy”. God created the biological implements of sex – conceptualised copulation for marriage.

Dear Jil,

In the last few weeks I have been examining my heart, analysing my sharings with you. My cogitation moves me to write you about deeper issues. You must grapple the serious dimensions of marriage for example. If you want your husband to appreciate you more, this judgment you must cultivate. It’s good for any relationship.

Dear Jack,

You want to know about my religious belief? (*Smiles*) Okay! I suspect you’re asking because of the timing of my Sunday tweets. You wonder if I go to church but I do, every Sunday!

Dear Jil

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard ringing phrases in your ear. You know, words that just keep looping in the ears, repeating themselves over and over again.

Dear Jack,

Have you ever heard of a sculptor named Sean Henry? I came across three of his works in London. They seemed ordinary at first glance, until I read his reasoning and the critics.
